Busy, busy busy

Whew. The last few days have just been a blur. Baketball season has started for Mercy, so she is crazy busy, Nathan started ice hocky, Ryan, Des, Shane and Ben are back to Tae Kwon Do and we have all of the usual busy-ness with school. Yesterday, I took the three little kids to a birthday party at lunch time, then after school we took Mercy and Ben to get their new glasses and then poor Mercy had to get two teeth pulled. Ouch!

Here's a funny... those of you who have been reading for awhile know that Ben has his "trademark" orange glasses. Well, when he had his appointment a few weeks ago they did not have any more orange frames (I guess they weren't very popular with anyone but Ben!) so he picked some cute black frames. I was worried he was going to be disappointed, but when he put these on I could tell right away that he loves them (and he does look super cute). I'll post a picture soon.

Mercy is cute as always too, although she was not in the mood to have her picture take after the dentist visit... go figure. :)

She did feel good enough to get up and go to basketball practice at 6am this morning though. She's tough (and she loves basketball!)

THANK YOU to everyone who helped get the word out about "Hope". We currently have a family that is 100% paper ready (dossier in China) that is considering her, and I am so hoping it works out. If not, we have a couple of other families who seemed seriously interested, so we should have a family committed to her very soon. Thank you!!! I will post when we have a family for sure.

We have a few new very young HIV+ kids waiting in Ethiopia too, along with the other 60 or so that have been waiting, and our list of cuties waiting in Thailand. We also have 25 HIV+ kids in process of being adopted as of right now. I am definitely keeping busy!!

Well, I am on my way out the door to take Solomon to the doctor. He has a nasty rash that just won't go away. He really can't catch a break...

Josh and I are hoping to get out on a date tonight.... I am really missing him after having him home so much over the holidays, and this is the last weekend he won't be gone with the indoor track team until some time in February.

More later! :)

****Updated to add... doctor said Solomon's rash looks viral, and is probably related to the high fever he ran over the weekend. They think it just needs to run it's course.

Hi Erin, That's interesting about Solomon's rash. My son who's immune system is not so great broke out in a rash in the beginning of Dec. He had it all over him. They first thought it was scabies, which was very yucky, but then it never got better and it got worse and they thought it was maybe a systemic staph infection. After antibiotics did nothing (but they kept him on) they gave us all sorts of medicine and a lotion to smear on him for severe eczema (which he's never had before). The rash was finally starting to look better when he broke out in a whole new rash that looked more like hives and they thought he was allergic to the antibiotic he never needed in the first place. Today he finally looks like everything is going away. Interestingly, I had cold-like symptoms in the middle of December and found a couple of itchy bumps that would appear and disappear. My mom and I both thought Matt's rash was probably viral, but the doctors said, no, they didn't think so. Now I hear about my sister who broke out in a strange rash and now your son. I wonder what's going around and I wish I had your doctors instead of mine! It would have saved my son some trouble especially because his system always reacts strangely to things.

Beth

What you should know about HIV

  • - HIV can NOT be spread through casual/household contact. HIV is not spread through hugging, kissing, shaking hands, sharing toys, sneezing, coughing, sharing food, sharing drinks, bathing, swimming or any other casual way. It has been proven that HIV and AIDS can only be spread through sexual contact, birth, breastfeeding and blood to blood contact (such as sharing needles).
  • - HIV is now considered a chronic but manageable disease. With treatment, people who are HIV+ can live indefinitely without developing AIDS and can live long and full lives.
  • - People who are HIV+ deserve to be treated with love, respect, support and acceptance as all people do. If anyone wants more info on transmission, there is great info on the Center for Disease Control website at http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/resources/factsheets/transmission.htm
